How long does the hiring process take?
Transfer maids (already in Singapore) can typically start within weeks once paperwork is in order. New maids hired from overseas take longer because of work permit processing, the medical examination, and the mandatory Settling-In Programme. Timelines vary by the helper’s country of origin.
What's the difference between a transfer maid and a new maid?
A transfer maid is already working in Singapore and can usually start within weeks. You can interview her in person and she has prior local household experience. A new maid is hired from overseas and goes through medical, training, and orientation before starting. Transfer maids cost less upfront but tend to command higher salaries; new maids cost more upfront but typically accept lower starting salaries.
